Travelling with your pet pooch

Taking your lovable pet pooch on holiday needn’t be a stressful experience. There are plenty of places in Scotland that accept pets. As well as dogs and cats, you can even take your pet ferret with you!

The key is to do your research before you head off so you know where you can and can’t take them.

Travelling from within the UK

If you’re travelling to Scotland from within the UK, there are no restrictions placed upon travelling with your pet. However, if you’re coming from Ireland or the Isle of Man you may need to check with local authorities to see what the rules are.

It can be a good idea to hire a campervan to take you and your pet on holiday (we accept well-behaved pet pooches!). Not only is this a cheaper option, it’s also a lot more convenient. It can be stressful trying to keep your dog well behaved in a hotel. At least in a campervan you and your pet will be a lot more relaxed.

Travelling from inside and outside the EU

If you’re travelling to Scotland from inside the EU, but outside of the UK, your pets will need to meet set requirements in order to avoid quarantine. You’ll need to check specific rules in the country you’re travelling from. You can find a list of EU countries listed on the government website.

If you’re travelling from outside of the EU then you may need to quarantine your pet for a set time period before you can take them on your travels. This is something you’ll need to look into before you head off. The last thing you want is to get stuck at the airport because of quarantine issues.

Enjoying Scotland with your pet

There are plenty of pet-friendly destinations in Scotland you can head to. If you do plan on hiring a campervan you could even go on an island hopping adventure.

If you plan on taking your pet pooch to the beach then be sure to check out regulations before you go. Some beaches don’t accept dogs, while others only accept them on parts of the beach. It’s important to know the rules before you get there so you can make the most of your trip.

There are even pet-friendly café’s situated around the country. Head to one of the many castles and parks available and take in a bit of culture. Enjoy a beautiful woodland walk or take them on the Ayrshire coastal path. There’s so much you can see and do so you don’t have to feel restricted at all.

Scotland is a fantastic place to take your pet. There are so many pet-friendly attractions providing hours of fun for you and your loyal companion. Don’t forget to ask us about hiring a campervan for you and your furry friend.
